Paul and Kathy Drogemuller of Paracombe Wines are delighted with the award. The Awards in their 25th year, are judged by an independent panel of the State’s leading wine judges, representing all wine regions.
2012 is the second vintage of Red Ruby with a great story behind this single vineyard, Malbec varietal rosé. The previous year, described by Paul and Kathy “as the most character building vintage ever experienced” with unseasonal rain and difficult conditions during harvest and vintage.
Paul, saw it as a perfect opportunity to produce the rosé he been wanting to for some time. As they walked through the Malbec vineyard Paul pointed out to Kathy that they had a choice. “Have a play and make a rosé, or leave the fruit hang and potentially lose the crop.” Paul could see the Malbec flavour profile was ideal for a rosé with intense, long flavour and made in a dry style with the right acid balance on the finish would be a superb wine. So out of difficulty, came a little gem and Red Ruby was released winning a place in the 2011 Advertiser Top 100 with its debut.
The 2012 Red Ruby is limited, only 190 dozen was produced of this wine. It is available direct from the Paracombe winery.
