The Adelaide Hills has been highlighted as the Sauvignon Blanc capital of Australia with 12 of the top 13 producers listed in James Halliday’s latest guide to Australian wineries.
Just as significantly, however, has been the inclusion of 17 five star Adelaide Hills wineries and an impressive list of wines that rated 94 points or higher (including Chardonnay,) This is an extraordinary result for such a young, developing wine region as the Adelaide Hills,” said Adelaide Hills Wine Region president David Handyside. He said the Adelaide Hills had only 60 wine labels and 33 cellar doors, many of them still only weekend operations.
“James Halliday’s ratings recognise the incredible diversity of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region and its capacity to provide not only the most delicate, floral Sauvignon Blanc in Australia, but also richly flavoured red wines such as Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. We are now clearly punching well above our weight with such a high proportion of top rated wines and wineries,” Mr Handyside said.
